Final Project - Session 6

Alesa Judd Final Project - Session 6

Reflect on how your personal learning network has changed and grown during the course of this workshop. Discuss your plans for how you plan to continue to grow your learning network and how you hope to contribute to the professional learning of your administrative colleagues.

During the course of this e-learning course, I have been introduced to many networking tools new to me, that pushed me outside my comfort zone.  I had created a Twitter account years ago, and decided it wasn't for me.  After reading and viewing the use of a Twitter account from another lens, and learning from reading the comments of classmates, creating a Twitter account for professional use is a consideration.  I like the brief nature of the posts, and the ease of use.  Using Blogspot.com and podcasting were also both new to me.  There is much to be gained from developing my network, and using platforms that I have not used in the past.

I continue to teach a GED class for Shelton State Community College.  The adult learners I come into contact with weekly need a place to go for information and updates.  I intend to use the blog I created to reach out to adult learners.  Some are seeking a GED, some a high school diploma, some basic education, and others certifications or higher education.  The blog will allow me to post information on a regular basis for reference.  I can publish the link on the facebook page, so all of the information is accessible to new and current learners.  The ability for adult learners to comment will help them begin to network as well.

First steps after registration

One of the hardest things to do is to take the first step toward a goal.  There are lots of ways to take the first step in completing a GED or High School Diploma.  After registering, decide if you would like to attend class in person, or if you prefer working online.  Everyone learns in their own way, so there is no right or wrong way.   Some people benefit from one to one or small group settings.  Others prefer participating in the weekly Zoom Meetings.  Some prefer online learning, while others like using books or paper materials.  Decide on how you would like to begin, or attend a class to talk with someone about how to get started.

Connecting with other learners with common goals is another way to begin.  Attending class is a way to connect face to face, and meet others who live nearby with similar challenges.  In class, learners can choose to work in groups or alone.  You can begin to make connections by being present in class.

One Step at a Time - Getting started

It is important to find a place to start, and the beginning is usually a good place.  One step at a time will get you there.  Beginning a blog is like that.

This blog is intended for adult learners working toward earning credentials such as a GED or High School Diploma.  Information will be shared to help adult learners take the next step and connect with others with similar goals.

In person classes are available, as well as online options for pursuing goals.  The first step is registration.  Everything is free!  Complete the public enrollment link to get started:
